Discovering Animals Around The World

Whenever I travel to someplace new, I am always interested in meeting locals, seeing their way of life, and observing the differences (and very often) similarities. As my country count started racking up, I soon came across more than just the local people in each new destination. I started noticing the animals that I met along the way, from the free-ranging cows in India, to the frolicking beach dogs in Thailand’s Koh Samet island, to the drowsy cats in Santa Barbara’s wine country.

Here are just a few of my favorite animals that I have encountered. I might have been worlds away, but at the end of the day, a cow in India is the same as a cow in the United States.

I definitely have a huge sweet tooth, but it is easier to control when I am at home. When I am traveling however, that little ounce of self control I posses flies right out the window as my love for trying new things takes over. Some of my favorite treats have been found halfway across the world; perhaps mostly due to the fact that I can’t enjoy them every day. Here are a few unusual snacks that I have come across.

As the winter finally ends and the weather is (slowly!) starting to warm up again, I find myself fantasizing about the summer beach days to come. With spring cleaning in full effect, its time to pull out those summer dresses and strappy sandals and get ready for a tropical adventure.

Where will this American girl be spending summer 2012? In Spain, of course!

And I can’t wait to share it all with YOU! From Madrid to Barcelona to Ibiza, I will be sharing the best in food, nightlife, culture, and of course fashion.

Street Vendors of Peru

One of my favorite things to do when I travel to a new place is check out the local bites being served on the street. Traveler discretion is definitely advised when choosing which street stall to eat from, (especially with undercooked meat as I learned the hard way in Thailand..), but for the true flavor of a country, try shopping locally and see what happens! You never know what locals you will meet and who will end up inviting you home for dinner..

Seven Super Shots From Around the World

One of my favorite things about the travel blogging world is the friendliness of its members. Perhaps it has more to do with the nature of fellow travelers, but in one moment, a complete stranger can become an instant friend, whether through twitter, connecting via a blog, or even just over a cocktail on your latest adventure.

I’d like to thank Jenny Neill for introducing herself to me through email and connecting over our shared love of travel, blogging, and photography. She has also invited me to participate in the latest travel blogging meme, Seven Super Shots.

As photography is one of my favorite ways to share the sights and feelings of a place, I am happy to share with you all my Seven Super Shots from traveling to over 15 different countries around the world.

This photo was taken in Huanchaco, Peru without any filters or special settings. I did not edit it at all. I am constantly astounded by the amount of natural beauty in this world. This sunset was so warm and inviting, and watching the golden orb dip lower down was truly a magical moment I will never forget.

Beach Dogs of Koh Samet

While digging through my old Thailand pictures for an upcoming assignment, I stumbled upon a large collection of pictures from my vacation on the Thai island of Koh Samet. As I flipped through the pictures, I started noticing a theme.

Koh Samet is full of beach dogs, from little grey huskies, with piercing blue eyes, to yellow Labradors, patrolling the area. These dogs are all fed and taken cared of by the local community, but during the day they stake out their claim on the beach. No matter where I looked, from the shade under my lounge chair, to buried deep in the sand, these beach dogs were there.

Koh Samet and these dogs have now become synonymous in my mind, and to be honest, you really can’t have the full island experience without these charming canines.

ProjectExplorer: Sawasdee, Thailand

This past Monday night, I had the pleasure of attending the global premiere of ProjectExplorer’s latest series: Sawasdee, Thailand.

Held at The Tribeca Grand hotel in New York City, the event was hosted by actor/director/writer Andrew McCarthy and Project Explorer creator Jenny Buccos and attended by travel industry members, public school supporters, and the entire ProjectExplorer team.

The film gave viewers a taste of Thailand, from a historical background on Buddhism and explaining the laws of gravity through bungee jumping to the sights and flavors of a typical Thai market.

As I previously mentioned, ProjectExplorer is a non profit organization that provides free travel videos to public schools giving children fun and educational lessons on travel, culture, history, and even math and science.
